The raw data for
each year of the survey can be downloaded for users to run their own
analysis. The files are designed to be used with the SPSS
statistical package. Excel files are available at The Detail Data Portal.
The files are in
SPSS portable file format, which means that they can be read
by any version of SPSS running under any operating system (for example,
Windows or MAC). In order to save space and download time, the files
have been compressed and saved in zip format. After downloading the
file, you will need to unzip it using suitable software, for example,
WINZIP. These files should also be recognised by Windows Explorer.
To download a file,
click on the link with the right hand mouse button (PC users only),
which will allow you to save the file to disk. For example, Netscape
users should select the 'Save Link As ...' option.
The NILT data must
be weighted (unless using household variables). Instructions
about how to apply the correct weight and other information about the
NILT surveys are available in the technical
notes, and should be used along with the SPSS files. If you have

A series of teaching datasets
have been developed, designed to be used on courses teaching quantitative
statistical analysis in the social sciences.
All work that uses
or refers to the Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey should acknowledge
it using the appropriate bibliographic citation. To view the citation

NILT
is a freely available resource for anyone interested in public attitudes
in Northern Ireland. There is no charge to use the statistics or data
available on this website. However, we are always interested in how
the findings are used, and so would be very grateful if you would let
us know how you have used them. In particular, copies or links to reports
