Coleraine Borough Council Elections 1993-2011

The UUP's decline in Coleraine continued apace in 2011. They saw their share of the popular vote drop by over 11% and lost three seats, two of them in Coleraine Central to the DUP and an Independent. The independent in this case, David McClarty, had previously represented the UUP on the Council since 1989 but had resigned from the party following his deselection as an MLA candidate for East Londonderry. As with the Council seat he was also successful in retaining his Assembly seat as an Independent. Also of note in Coleraine was the comeback by the Alliance Party, winning two seats from the DUP and UUP, having failed to get any candidates elected in 2001 and 2005.
