British Society of Gerontology Northern Ireland (BSGNI): Activities
This group was set up in April 2015, and we plan to hold at least 1 key event per year. The next event will focus on intergenerational friendships, and will be held on 12 April 2018 in Trinity College Dublin – click here for more details.
- The launch of BSGNI was marked with an event Representing Age, which took place on Wednesday 22 April 2015.
- A seminar was held in Ulster University, focusing on Ageing & Research, on Tuesday 27 October 2015.
- An event on 10 June 2016 highlighed the role of community and gardening and community for ageing well.
- On 7 June 2017, a workshop explored grandparents’ experiences of kinship care from multiple perspectives.
- A seminar by Jill Manthorpe on 26 November 2017 focused on ‘relationships in the round’ within adult safeguarding.
- An event on 12 April 2018 highlighted the significance of intergenerational friendships.
We have also presented papers at the annual BSG conferences:
- Gemma Carney, Paula Devine, Elizabeth Martin, Sarah Lawrence and Alexandra Chapman gave papers at the 46th Annual BSG conference in July 2017.
- Gemma Carney, Paula Devine and Elizabeth Martin participated in the 45th Annual BSG conference in July 2016.
- Gemma Carney and Paula Devine gave a paper at the 44th Annual BSG conference in July 2015.
- The ARK Ageing Programme team organised a symposium ‘Ageing and Social Isolation in Divided Societies: social, political and cultural intersections in Britain and Ireland‘ at the 43rd Annual BSG conference in September 2014.
