On 13 June, the findings and data from the 2017 Northern Ireland Life and Times (NILT) Survey were made publicly available. The survey recorded the opinions of 1,203 adults on good relations, armed forces, minority ethnic groups, Brexit, older people and much more. A seminar on 13 June marked the launch of the 2017 Northern Ireland Life and Times (NILT) Survey. Professor Cherie Armour and Dr Bethany Waterhouse-Bradley explored public attitudes to UK armed forces in Northern Ireland, using data from the 2017 survey.

The inclusion of this topic in NILT was the first time that a comprehensive set of questions on attitudes to UK armed forces, veteran's wellbeing and service provision was asked of people living in Northern Ireland. Queering the Family is a fascinating collaborative video project by ARK and BBC Rewind, exploring attitudes in Northern Ireland to same-sex relationships.

Public attitudes data from the Northern Ireland Social Attitudes Survey and the Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey is illustrated by footage from the BBC Archive. In addition, Gemma Carney and Paula Devine provide a social science analysis of attitudinal shifts.

Population ageing has social and political consequences for society. Given these challenges and opportunities, the Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey has investigated public attitudes towards ageing and older people at several points in time.

Throughout the year, ARK organises many different types of events. For example, we recently held a seminar to launch the findings of the 2017 Young Life and Times and 2017 Kids' Life and Times, as well as a seminar to launch the findings of the 2017 Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey. Videos of these seminars are available on our website.

The ARK team are also involved in a range of other events. For example, Gemma Carney recently gave a presentation 'Brexit and the Myth of Generational Warfare' to the National Pensioners' Convention Annual conference in Blackpool. During the next few months, the ARK team will give papers on their work at the annual conferences of the British Society of Gerontology, the Social Policy Association, and the Irish Gerontological Association.
