Introduction

Welcome to the May issue of the ARK Newsletter, which focuses on our forthcoming events. As you will see, we have a packed schedule of seminars and workshops in the next few months. We hope you can join us.
 

ARK Survey data

Results from ARK's 3 public attitudes surveys will be available soon.
Data from the 2016 Northern Ireland Life and Times (NILT) survey will be available on the NILT website on Friday 16 June. The survey included questions relating to respect, good relations, minority ethnic groups, migrant workers, political attitudes, BREXIT, and abortion.

Data from the 2016 Young Life and Times (YLT) and Kid's Life and Times surveys will be available on Monday 19 June. These surveys included questions on respect, school and education, and sport and physical activity.

Launch of 2016 NILT data

The results of the 2016 NI Life and Times survey will be launched at a seminar on 16 June. Ann Marie Gray will discuss public attitudes to abortion, including attitudes to existing law on abortion, whether the law should be changed and in what circumstances, and views on the criminalisation of abortion.

The event will take place in NICVA, 61 Duncairn Gardens, on Friday 16 June at 11am, followed by a light lunch. This event is free of charge, but places need to be booked by Friday 9 June, by emailing d.coey@ulster.ac.uk

New date for launch of YLT/KLT results

The launch event for the 2016 Kids' Life and Times (KLT) and Young Life and Times (YLT) surveys has been rescheduled.

The new date is Monday 19 June from 11.30 to 13.30 (registration and coffee/tea from 11.00; light lunch at 13.00). The event will be held in Room G026, School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, Queen's University, at 6 College Park.

The event is free, but places are limited, and so need to be booked in advance. Please contact Eileen Gray by 15 June 2017. Email e.gray@qub.ac.uk or phone 028 9097 5906.

ARK Ageing Programme Visiting Fellow

ARK Ageing Programme Visiting Fellow
The ARK Ageing Programme is very pleased that Anna Tarrant (University of Lincoln) will be visiting in June 2017. Anna is a lecturer in Sociology, and her research interests include men and masculinities; family sociology; and kinship care. During her visit, Anna will be involved in two events:Both events are free, but places need to be booked in advance.

CAIN citations

The CAIN (Conflict Archive on the INternet) website contains information and source material on 'the Troubles' and politics in Northern Ireland from 1968 to the present.

Searches of Google Scholar indicate that there are a total 1,774 citations of material that is available on CAIN , in academic publications (journal articles; books; chapters in edited books; reports; theses and dissertations; and other publications). On the CAIN site there is a list of the 1,327 publications that have been checked by staff to date (including, in many cases, a Web address where each item can be found).
