Each \u2018age encounter\u2019 has presentations from speakers from different sectors, along with time to chat over coffee.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 20px;\">\n<p>The event on a very sunny day in June focused on combatting loneliness in later life.\u00a0 We were very pleased to collaborate with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.u3afoyle.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">U3A Foyle<\/a>, and the &#8216;Age Encounter&#8217; was held in their premises in Derry\/Londonderry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were three speakers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Robert Hagan (Ulster University) focused on the theoretical background to loneliness and social isolation. View the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IGZOCHPE7PE\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/RH1jun16.pdf\">powerpoint slides<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Jim Simpson, an active U3A member, talked about his life after retirement, and why he joined U3A.<\/li>\n<li>Paddy McEldowney, CEO of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.easilink.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Easilink<\/a> (a rural community transport provider) highlighted the importance of community transport schemes in combatting loneliness and social isolation.
