The workshop was organised by was organised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/people\/ac\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alexandra Chapman<\/a> and Ciara Fitzpatrick, who are both PhD students at Ulster University.\u00a0 Alexandra is also a member of the ARK Ageing Programme team.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4450\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4450\" style=\"width: 308px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/panel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4450\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/panel-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"panel\" width=\"308\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/panel-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/panel.jpg 1023w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 308px) 100vw, 308px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4450\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From left: Alexandra Chapman, Gemma Carney, Duane Farrell, Evelyn Hoy, Gill Smith, Ann Marie Gray, Kevin Keenan and Ciara Fitzpatrick<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the event, Kevin Keenan (Assistant Director of Older People and Adult Services, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hscboard.hscni.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Health and Social Care Board<\/a>) gave an overview on planning services for older people in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The audience were then asked to work in small groups to identify three innovative policy ideas relating to health and social care, and to present one of these.\u00a0 The best idea was then selected by a judging panel, comprising:<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn Hoy, Chief Executive, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copni.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Commissioner for Older People<\/a><br \/>\nGill Smith, Assistant Director, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.transformingyourcare.hscni.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Transforming Your Care<\/a><br \/>\nDuane Farrell, Charity Director, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ageuk.org.uk\/northern-ireland\/\" target=\"_blank\">AgeNI<\/a><br \/>\nAnn Marie Gray, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/policyunit\/\" target=\"_blank\">ARK Policy Director<\/a>, Ulster University<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/people\/gc\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gemma Carney<\/a>, ARK Ageing Programme, Queen&#8217;s University Belfast<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/room.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4451 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/room-300x167.jpg\" alt=\"room\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/room-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/room-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ark.ac.uk\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/room.jpg 1198w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>There was alot of discussion among the audience, as well as healthy competition during the presentations! The winning idea focused on age-friendly schools where older people help children with numeracy and literacy, and where children are trained as dementia friends.
