Attitudes
to Peace Walls, 2012
In 2012 a research team based at the University of Ulster successfully applied for research funding to the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister for funding to conduct research on Attitudes to Peace Walls. The aim of the research was to explore public awareness of and attitudes towards peace walls so that this information could feed into public debate and policy making. The research team was Dr Jonny Byrne, Dr Cathy Gormley-Heenan and Professor Gillian Robinson. The research comprised two postal surveys: one of the general population across Northern Ireland; and one of residents living close to peace lines in Belfast and Derry~Londonderry. Work began in March 2012 and the first findings were made available in a Research Report to OFMDFM in June 2012. The Research Report was then published and related materials made available online in late September 2012. This page contains links to all the materials and outputs relating to this research. For more information on the Attitudes to Peace Walls project, you can watch a short video by Jonny Byrne.
Tables of results are available, broken down by age, sex and Protestant/Catholic - see Surveys Online (SOL)
All materials relating to the surveys are now available: If you wish to undertake your own analysis, the datasets are available in SPSS portable format. Please read the technical notes before undertaking any analysis, in order to find out about weighting the data.
