Background to the Research
- The troubles within NI have largely overshadowed
the presence of over forty ethnic minority and religious groups.
- The region's 20,000 ethnic minority residents
have had to contend with a lack of protective legislation and an ignorance
of their respective needs by the state. The aim of this book is to
highlight the marginalisation of ethnic minority groups within NI.
Moreover, the book provides an overview of ethnicity, and how it is
recognised as an integral component of the agenda for change in NI.
Research Approach
- The authors use a combination of approaches:
- Analysis of primary data.
- Analysis of secondary data.
- The book is structured to facilitate an
understanding of ethnic minority communities in NI.
- It is in two parts. Part 1 focuses upon
key issues and part 2 provides case studies of ethnic minority groups
in NI, namely Chinese, Traveller, Pakistan and Indian.
