Introduction
Welcome to the October edition of the ARK newsletter. Although there hasn't been a newsletter for the last few months, the ARK team has been very busy. In particular, two new initiatives have started, and you can find more information below.
Accounts of the Conflict - Digital Archive project launched
The new Accounts of the Conflict project will develop the means to offer long-term storage and preservation of stories related to life in Northern Ireland and the border region. In addition, the project will catalogue the work that has been carried out on story-telling in, and about, Northern Ireland. As well as developing a web-based resource, the project will run a series of seminars, the first of which takes place on 17 October. Further details are available on the Events section of the ARK website. The Accounts of the Conflict project will link closely to CAIN, and is funded by the European Union's PEACE lll programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes body.

ARK Ageing Programme
The ARK Ageing Programme is a new resource within ARK to support engagement between the age and academic sectors. We will do this by encouraging and facilitating the production of research that will support lobbying and advocacy, and the sophisticated use of information and evidence by the age sector. In addition, we aim to embed ageing research within Queen's University Belfast and University of Ulster. Funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies, as well as Queen's University Belfast and University of Ulster, this programme of work will run from October 2013 to December 2016.

Update on ARK's surveys
ARK runs three attitude surveys asking the public about issues that affect their lives: - Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey, which involve 1200 adults across Northern Ireland. The 2013 NILT survey is currently being carried out by Perceptive Insight, so if you are asked to participate, please tell us your opinions on a range of key social issues, including community relations, politics, sport, and LGBT issues.
- Young Life and Times Survey, which focuses on the views of 16 year olds.
The 2013 Young Life and Times survey will be carried out before the end of the year, and will explore a range of topics, including financial well-being, and mental health.
- Kids' Life and Times, which askes the opinions of 10-11 year olds. The 2013 KLT survey took place in May and June, and the results will be available next month. We will have more details in our next newsletter.

Seminars and events
Each year, ARK organises a series of seminars relating to key social issues, and many explore the findings from ARK's attitudes surveys. In the next few months, we will be running seminars exploring attitudes to minority ethnic groups, community relations, LGBT issues, children's use of the internet, and sexual risks experienced by teenagers. In addtion, the new ARK resources (Accounts of the Conflict project, and the ARK Ageing Programme) will be organising their own seminars and events. The seminars attract a wide audience. However, if you aren't able to attend, don't worry! We video our seminars and make them available online. Full details on all future and past events are available on the Events section of the ARK website.
