Introduction

Welcome to our May 2015 newsletter. It's a busy time of year for the ARK team with our suite of attitudinal surveys from 2014 being launched; ARK Ageing Programme Visiting Fellow arriving 1 June and new publications published. We are also seeking your view on one of our services through an on-line user survey.
 

2014 Young Life and Times and Kids Life and Times survey data launched

KLT and YLT Results Launch

This year we ran a joint event to launch the findings from the YLT and KLT surveys. An invited audience heard from the NI Children and Young People's commissioner about how attitudes data feeds into their work. Latest findings on attitudes to and knowledge of Autism were also presented together with an overview of all survey results.

ARK Ageing Programme Visiting Fellow - Professor Sue Yeandle - Public Seminar 8 June 2015

We are delighted to collaborate with Carers NI and welcome Professor Sue Yeandle, University of Leeds as our second ARK Ageing Programme Visiting Fellow. Sue is Director of CIRCLE, the Centre for International Research on Care, Labour and Equalities, at the University of Leeds in the UK, where her work is based in the School of Sociology and Social Policy. A sociologist who specialises in the study of care, work and family life, we look forward to her visit from 1-12 June 2015. During her time she will engage in a range of meetings and events. A public seminar will be held at Ulster University on Monday 8 June to mark the start of Carers' week.

Seminar 17 June 2015 to launch NILT 2014 'Is Northern Ireland a good place to be old?'

On Weds 17 June 2015 we invite you to join us at a seminar to mark the launch of the 2014 Northern Ireland Life and Times survey. The seminar will focus on attitudes to ageing and ageism.The seminar is free but it is essential to register.

Launch of British Society of Gerentology in Northern Ireland

ARK Ageing ProgrammeJulia Twigg gave a fascinating seminar Representing Age at the NI Arts Council buildings on 22 April 2015. A lively audience enjoyed the event very much and we look forward to future BSGNI events.

Are you interested in future modules on KLT or YLT?

ARK is now inviting expressions of interest for the 2015 survey of 16 year olds (Young Life and Times) and the 2015 survey of 10/11 year olds (Kids' Life and Times). Fieldwork for both surveys will take place in the autumn of 2015.
